the Artist
Artist, Katie Gamble, was born and raised in the small town of Maryville Tennessee, where her family has called home for nearly eight generations. Love of the East Tennessee Mountains has been an important factor in the decisions that has shaped her life and is the inspiration for all her work. Gamble's fascination with landscapes developed while attending school at Western Carolina University. Influenced early in her career by masters such as Cézanne and Van Gogh, a loose, "contemporary" impressionistic style quickly developed. "I focus on the relationships of color and space, and patterns of light and dark. I break down my subject into blocks of color, which has caused my work to develop a unique "chunky" quality. My works are distorted but honest views of my world . The work is easier to register from a distance, but like in nature, a closer look reveals more." Gamble received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Western Carolina and returned to East Tennessee. She now works as a freelance artist providing trompe l'oeil murals and custom oil paintings for clients throughout the southeast. Lady of the Earth Studios is located behind the artist's home and although she spends most of her time on commissioned work, she never misses the opportunity to paint on location in the Great Smoky Mountains.
